After the introduction of C-Zero, the first electric car available in Europe, the launche of the i-MiEV Mitsubshi version was finally presented, the model starting at a price of 29,548 euros, excluding VAT. If I were to analyse the vehicles, comparing the design, the inside features and the power versus de range of the engine I would say that the only difference between the two cars is the logo.

At its debut in Japan in July 2009, the Mitsubishi i-MiEV became the first electric car produced in series by a major manufacturer and intended for global market. We know there are producers that went only for the eco vehicles and that managed to gather quite an exclusivistic group of customers, but Mitsubishi seems to have made the step to go out with this model, world wide. Tesla has become quite popular, probably because it has the advantage of being a sports cars also, not just an ecological and economical invention. Now, other producers have decided that is time to stop practicing fuel consumption economy systems and go for this electric model, which, let’s admit, is wonderful in the city.

The i-MiEV Mitsubshi is a compact car with 0 CO2 emissions, with four seats, with a length of only 3475 meters, four doors and a trunk of 227 liters. Maximum power developed by the electric motor is 49 kW which means 66 hp and the maximum torque is 180 Nm, available in the speed range 0-2000 rpm. Quite competitive for such a small car, keeping in mind we are talking about an electric one.

The maximum speed that can be reached by the i-MiEV is 130 km / h, lithium-ion batteries providing them a range of up to 150 kilometers. A full charge takes 6 hours, but that is 6 hours well spent, as the car is a beauty in the city. The batheris are a new generation which allow maximum range at a very low charging time.

At this point i-MiEV is the first electric car subjected to crash tests performed by Euro NCAP, a test where this small car earned a rating of four stars under the new protocol. That is excellent, for the town and for an outside driving. Mitsubishi i-MiEV basis for Peugeot and Citroen C-On-Zero, following a partnership agreement between the two car entities, but probably that wont stop customers from buying the prefered brand. Europeans may go for the Peugeot versions, while Americans will prefere the Japanesse car producer’s option, because of its global coverage in service and spare parts.
