A brand new design of SmartCar is being made for American release by a joint Smart-Nissan venture. The sales for Smart vehicles has been lagging, after initial success at the height of high gas prices. One of the biggest consumer grievances was a lack of seating. A five door hatchback with a second row of seats will be the result of the Intelligent and Nissan union. The automobile will hit dealerships in 2011, and economy automobiles are becoming quite popular.

Nissan and SmartCar

Subcompact SmartCars came years back. This wasn’t much news. When gas prices reached $4 a gallon, Intelligent ForTwo became popular. This is what USA Today tells us. The brand sold more than 24,000 autos its first year in the States. With terrible economic conditions, sales slowed a bunch. This was bad news. Since then, the company has been struggling to step units. Nissan and the company are now working together. A five-door hatchback is the newest goal. The business that produces the Smart car, SmartUSA, is a subsidiary of Penske Automotive Group. Daimler manufactures the automobiles sold in the United States.

Consumer is correct many of the time

Part of the cause of lagging sales was customers wanted a vehicle with more seating. The V platform from Nissan could be used with the subcompact. It could be the basis for three different cars made in North American plants, according to Automotive News. Versa is the smallest vehicle by Nissan at present although the Versa will switch to the new platform which is smaller than the Versa. The Versa won’t be the smallest anymore with the brand new Smart car design.

Good step to make

The Wise For Two automobile is economical which is why numerous liked it. The purchase price is pretty cheap along with the price of filling it up. People like subcompacts and compacts more now. They are selling better. The Ford Motors Fiesta and numerous other models are becoming best sellers. Because it is selling so well, more companies should be looking into the sector. It might be a breakthrough for many companies.
